Can't enable firewall

M

Mike

a virus got past my NAV program and I'm trying to
recover. It's been cleaned off, but my problem is I can't
get the XP firewall to enable on my LAN Card. I get a
message "an error occured while Internet Connection
Sharing was being enabled - The dependency Service or
group failed to start"

Any thoughts?

Greetings --

Right-click My Computer > Manage > Services and Applications >
Services. In the right-hand pane, scroll down to right-click on the
Internet Connection Firewall and select Properties. Click the
Dependencies Tab. Make sure that all of the listed system
components/services are shown as started in the Services list.

Normally, you will need to have the Application Layer Gateway
Service, the Network Connections, the Network Location Awareness, and
the Remote Access Connection Manager started.

Mike,

It's a good idea whenever you have to remove a virus,
that you review the list of infected files. You can
figure out what programs were infected or corrupted by
the virus and you know what programs to repair or re-
install. Most all anti-virus programs maintain a log
file that you can now go back and look to figure out what
programs need repair. I suspect that you will find that
some operating system files are included in the
infection. If listed, be sure and look at the folder
that the infected files were located in and that can give
an idea what program they belong to. If that doesn't
work, try doing a Microsoft Knowledge Base and/or Google
search on the file and see if that will help.

Without having any other real specifics on your problem,
I can only add that you may have to do a repair
installation of Windows to repair your problem. Here's
