Can't Delete Temp Internet Files

Guest

When I click to delete Temp Files IE will hang up and not delete any files. I
can delete the files manually and go right back to try and delete with the
checkbox but the system will still hang so I know it's not because there are
too many files. I have the box checked under the Advanced Tab to delete files
when browser is closed, but this never seems to happen as I always have a lot
of files.

See if this helps:

"How to clear the History entries in Internet Explorer".

"How to Delete the Contents of the Temporary Internet Files Folder".

Try also...
CCleaner (freeware), from http://www.ccleaner.com/
About CCleaner, courtesy of Sandi Hardmeier - Microsoft MVP: "Be very very
VERY careful with CCleaner. We are seeing a lot of problems with that
software removing hotfix data making it impossible to uninstall IE7 and any
other hotfix/update."

And...
Free History Eraser (deletes also index.dat files):
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm
The History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Then set your IE cache (TIF folder size) at about 50/60 mb (Internet
options -> Settings).

The links you provided did not help. I AM able to clear the URL History.
However, my setting to automatically delete temp files when closing browser
does not work and clicking on the "Tools>Internet Options>Delete Files" does
not work. IE will hang indefinitely. Again, I CAN delete the files manually.
Any other words of wisdom?

As Robear said: Windows version, Pete?

You'd have told us if you were running IE7 Beta3, right?

1. Note the location of your TIF folder (Tools > Internet Options > General
TIF > Settings).

2. Log on as Administrator and delete this folder.

3. Reboot.

Running IE6. Can't delete this folder... get message saying this is a System
Folder and cannot delete.

Location of TIF is User>Local Settings>TIF. Logged in as admin, I have TIF
under "Default User", "Owner" and "User". I deleted the TIF Folder for Owner
and Default User but CANNOT delete for User. Tried again (waited 10 minutes)
after deleting TIF for Owner and Default User but system still hangs
(hourglass).

I am the only "user" and no other user accounts set up so yes, it is (should
be administrator).

Then before doing anything else, I would run a /thorough/ check for
hijackware, including posting your HijackThis log to an appropriate forum
for review.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,

forums for expert analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
