Can't delete IE6 temp files

G

Guest

I'm using win xp sp1; ie6;
My browser functions quite well. I, however, cannot delete the temporary internet files. Doing this hangs the browser:
IE6/tools/internet options
in the temporary internet files section click on the Delete button
the hour glass comes up and after several minutes the browser times out.

I have not been able to delete the temp internet files.
Suggestions?

You could try to delete them manually.

The Temporary Internet Files are located at
C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

In order to be able to view these files you'll have to enable showing hidden
files and folders. In Windows Explorer go to Tools | Folder Options | View
and click on "Show hidden files and folders"

Ralf

The easiest way I've found is with a free program called
Index.Dat Suite, which can be downloaded at

http://www.it-mate.co.uk/support/idsuite.asp

All you have to do is click "Find", check the boxes in
front of everything you want deleted, click on the black
box with the C:\ prompt and OK every subsequent dialog box.
After that, just close it and it will automatically delete
those Temp directories and all the files on bootup. Not to
worry, though, because those directories are automatically
recreated, empty, as you use your computer, until you
decide to clean it again.

And to know if and when you should clean your drive's .dat
files, I recommend a handy, and often enlightening, free
utility called Traces Viewer. Download it at

http://www.colorpilot.com/tracesviewer.html

You will probably be quite suprised at what it finds,
especially if more than one person uses your computer.
