Can't bring up Web Pages (using IE) or get e-mail (OE) after Stan

Using Windows XP, service pack 2

After I have used Standby Mode, I can no longer bring up web pages using IE
or get e-mail using Outlook Express.

IE gives me a message like this: "The page you are looking for is currently
unavalilable. The web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or
you may need to adjust your browser settings", followed by a half page of
instructions on checking browser settings, etc. I have tried all of these but
none work.

At the bottom of the page is the following "Cannot find server or DNS error
- Internet Explorer".

If I shut down, and come back up I can then once again get web pages and
e-mail, just as long as I haven't invoked the standby mode previously in the
session.

It appears that I am connected OK to my ISP's server. My early restore files
have been previously deleted.

Check:
Start -> Run devmgmt.msc
locate your network adapter (NIC) RightClick on ot and look on last tab
(Powermanagemet?). Is the "Allow computer to turn off power.." checked? Is
so, uncheck it. A lot of network cards have problems with "waking up"
