Can't access private folder

Hey. I had xp home installed on one partition of my hard drive, and had
relocated My Documents to another partition. I had it set to Private. I
didn't have xp home for all that long before i reinstalled it (about a
month). After the reinstall, i changed My Documents to where i had it on the
second partition, but when i tried to access the folder it gives the same
message that you would get if you trying to access a private folder from a
different user.

I've checked in the properties menu, and "Make this folder private" is not
checked. I even attempted to share the folder on the network I got an error
saying i don't have permission to access the drive. Does anyone know how I
can access it? It has a lot of important stuff in there.

You need to regain access by taking ownership of the drive or folder where
access is denied.

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP
Describes how to take ownership of files or folders that you may
not have permissions for if you are an administrator for that computer. This
article describes how to take ownership of a file or a folder where you have
been denied access.

Since you're running Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in Safe Mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Once you have access to the Security tab you can take ownership
of the files and give your account Full Control permissions.

Good luck

Thanks, that helped. I had around 20gb of important stuff in there and i
would have been so annoyed if there was no way to get it.
