Making Folders Private

I am using Windows XP Professional. I want to make my "My Documents" folder
private so no one else can have access to it. I ran the "Help and Support
Center" within Windows and did get the answer I was looking for.

To make your folders private

1) Open My Computer.

2) Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive (C:),
unless you have more than one drive on your computer).
If the contents of the drive are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show the
contents of this drive.

3) Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.

4) Double-click your user folder.

5) Right-click any folder in your user profile, and then click Properties.

6) On the Sharing tab, select the Make this folder private so that only I
have access to it check box.

On the "Sharing Tab" it doesn't have 'Make this folder private etc etc" but
has this instead "You can share this folder with other users on your network
(don't have a network). To enable sharing for this folder, click share this
folder."

Then it has "Do noy share this folder" which is ticked with a green dot and
"Share this folder" which isn't ticked with a green dot. Other people can
still access my folder and I would like to make it private but can't.

Can someone tell me how when I don't have "Make this folder private"

Thank you for your help

God Bless

The system is in NTFS. I had Windows XP Home Edition and was able to to that
but now have Windows XP Professional and it doesn't seem to let me do that.

Your file system needs to be NTFS for that to work, do you have yours as
FAT32. To convert to NTFS open a command prompt and type:

convert c: /FS:NTFS

hope that helps

Another setting you need to check is "Use simple file sharing" look in
folder options and view. If you go to the bottom of the advanced settings
list you will see the above setting with (recommended) after it, to see the
"make this folder private" setting you need to select the simple file
sharing feature.

see if that helps
all the best
