Cannot open duplicate browsers at the same time

I cannot open more than one browser. I'm using XP,
internet explorer 6. If I have one browser opened, and
try to open another, I get a box that says, Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience. Then it ask me if I
would like to send a message to microsoft, or not.

I have the same setup (XP Pro w/ SP1 & IE6), and am
having similar issues: usually can't open a new browser
window if one is already open, or if it does open it is
VERY slow to. Plus, even hitting the "back" button is slow
or inoperative. Even hitting "reply to this post" on this
newsgroup was slow. However, initial homepage loading is
fine, and clicking through on most links is fine, as long
as new browser window isn't opened.

All my security settings are "medium" (allowing ActiveX
and Java-enabled stuff to run, etc.),and I am running a
DSL modem on a PPPoE connection.

Please help. I'll try the spyware cleanup solutions in
the meantime...

Thanks! The help site you recommended is excellent, and
provided many great tips and answers. I also downloaded
and used Spybot Search & Destroy, which helped to clear
up my problem. I can open multiple browser windows again,
links open much faster in general, etc. All fixed!

I have to say, I was APPALLED at the number of spyware
programs I found installed. Dozens. I removed 90+% of
them, excluding only the things I felt safe with. It made
all the difference in the world.
