Cannot install this hardware

After installing the software and driver for a pen digital camera (still
photos, video/still pix capture, webcam), in the process of adding the
imaging device, received the flwg message:

"Cannot install this hardware: USB digital still camera. An error occurred
during the installation of the device. The class installer has denied the
request to install or upgrade this device."

The driver is called MyDSC_0425 and resides in C:\WINDOWS\Twain_32\MyDSC. I
use XP Home SP2. As a little test, on choosing the shortcut to the still
photos download interface, on pressing the download photos button, message
says "Camera connection error."

I have checked a number of areas re this camera and its driver, without
success (it is supposed to be an Aiptek camera, but the camera/manual itself
has no such identifiers and their pen camera website info. is a bit confusing
as to possibilities; have sent them a support request without result so far).
Windows Tested Products List shows a number of Windows-supported Aiptek pen
cameras, but I doubt that mine is one of them.

A) Was wondering if there is a way to check that the XP inbuilt WIA/TWAIN
software is current and/or working properly, just in case.
B) And, what else can I do to get the still photos out of the camera; it
doesn't have a removable memory card.

Hope you can help! thanks

What happens if you turn the camera on
and connect it to your USB port and go to
My Computer...does the camera show up
as a removable drive?

Hi John, tks ur reply.
On turning on the camera the LED readout tells me I still have six pix left.
In My Computer the camera shows up on its own and is called Argus Digital
Camera DC1512.

On right-clicking the camera icon and choosing Explore, I get message that
says "Please wait while device initializes". It then opens up a new folder
space with a black square in the middle, at the same time as the camera LED
readout turns into a signalling mode with a PCcam icon at bottom right of the
LED readout. I pick up the camera, and it shows up in the black square as
showing moving pix (I presume this is what it would do as a webcam, never
having had one before now).

I then chose the UpOneLevel arrow/folder icon to get back to previous folder
view, right-clicked the Argus camera again, chose Get Pictures which opened
up the Scanner & Camera Wizard, followed the prompts, which then brought it
back to a webcam/video folder with the black square, but which allowed me to
take photos from the webcam/video moving pix, of which I took four still
photos and then just followed the prompts to save the pix to the appropriate
folder, etc, which then opened up that folder to show me the filmstrip view
for me to look at them.

Well, John, all I've been able to do so far is to use the camera as a webcam
and to take still photos from those live webcam moving pictures. I have not
been able to download the still pix I took as a digital still photos camera,
of which I still have six left to take, originally having 26 pix. Unless, of
course, your answer indicates that you think it can only be used as a
webcam...?

Sorry, I thought you said you downloaded
them. And I have no idea what the camera
can be used for.

When you right clicked the camera icon you
should have been able to browse the contents
of the camera's memory. Could there be a folder
you missed?

Browse the contents of the memory: I have already described to you what I am
able to do with this camera currently. What I cannot do is get the
photographs I took, when this pen camera was in 'normal digital camera' mode,
into my computer.

As far as I am aware, I cannot browse the contents of the memory. When I
right-click onto the camera icon (that looks like a video camera, BTW) and
labelled Argus Digital Camera DC1512, I can choose: Open, Explore, Get
Pictures, Create Shortcut, Rename, Properties. When I pause the mouse
pointer over the icon is says "Opens your camera and displays the pictures on
it."

I don't know if I have missed a folder; there isn't much on the CD;
perhaps you could tell me what sort of things should have been installed, or
the names of some typical folders that should have been installed. I have
not installed the ArcSoft image manipulation software as I don't need it.

As part of the driver installation process, it created a folder on my
desktop called My DSC with only two shortcuts in it -- MyDSC (the interface
to download the still pictures -- which produces the "Camera connection
error" message mentioned previously) and PCCam (the interface to capture
video, and labelled Dual-Mode DSC(2770) which I believe is the name of the
installed driver).

I only installed two items. The Driver folder only had the Setup.exe file.
And in the Win folder, it had the DirectX 8.1b Redistribution package.exe.

Let me tell you what it says on the box about the camera:

**DigiCam VGA** (that's its name on the box)

Digital Camera: The amazing DigiCam VGA is so compact that you can take it
anywhere, but despite its small size it is still a fully functional digital
camera.
Digital Camcorder: Record full motion video without the need to have the
camera connected toyour computer.
PC Camera: No need to purchase a separate Web cam, just plug the DigiCam
VGA into your PC then away you go!
Software included: DigiCam VGA Driver, ArcSoft Photo Impression, ArcSoft
VideoImpression.
Patent no: 00341245.8.

Specification:
Sensor Type: CMOS
Image Resolution: 640x480 (VGA); 320x240 (QVGA).
On board memory: 8Mb SDRAM
Capacity: Normal 26 Images (High), 104 images (Low).
Capacity: compressed 52 images (high), 209 images (Low).
Self timer: 10 seconds
Battery: 2x1.5V AAA; battery life approx. 2 weeks on standby.

System requirements: Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP
P200 MHz processor or higher
32Mb RAM, 64Mb recommended
Video card with 2Mb of RAM
4xspeed CD-ROM
An available USB port.

Sorry, I know nothing about the camera.
My idea was that the software may not
be necessary.

I thought maybe you could download the
images from the memory by right clicking
the icon in My Computer and choose...
Explore...then open the various folders
and find your images. Then do a simple
Copy / Paste to a folder on your hard drive.

I guess you'll have to contact the support
site for the camera.
