Cannot find helpctr.exe

When I click on the Start Menu icon for "help and support" I get the error message - "Windows cannot find "helpctr.exe". Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.-to search for a file, click the Start button, and then search". I don't know how to get to the help files...can anyone Help? I'm using Windows XP.

I did the fix listed on http://www.dougknox.com and it hasn't worked. When
I went to CMD and looked at Help and Support it says the service is
"stopped". When I try to enable I get the message: "Error 1083: The
executable program that this service is configured to run in does not
implement the service". Do not know where to go from here..can anyone else
offer a suggestion?

I thought that perhaps I could reinstall Service Pack 2 and that would fix
the problem. Not sure if that would even help. I've tried to find a place
on Microsoft to down load Service Pack 2 but my computer is set for Auto
Download and XP was updated automatically in September 2004. I do not have
the Service Pack 2 CD and when I tried to use the XP Home Edition CD it
basically said that it was too old. Pat

I would have suggested a reinstall, but you obviously lack the original setup
media. Perhaps you can find a setup disk (same XP Edition, and SP level)
Running a Repair setup would rebuild the help, and the only other shot at
fixing it is the reg fix found on the Kelly's Korner site

(see Item #235)

entries. This will not get me the file I need

Being cautious about what web site you download such things from is a very
prudent viewpoint. However, in this case there's no need to fear this site.
Kelly's site is one of the best and most-trusted such sites on the web. I'll
vouch for it (and Kelly) and so will many other satisfied users of her stuff
here on these newsgroups.

Ken , Look at my post for file needed for restore , the file was compressed
in other file used that
every thing worked great
again I just try to work around a registry if I can, in this case it was a
file
The registry , I believe does not can files or does it?
