helpctr.exe and wmplayer.exe won't open

I recently bought a new Emachine with Windows XP Service Pack 1. Everytime I click on a file of audio or video to play with Windows media player or Help and Support on the start menu it says "Windows cannot find 'wmplayer.exe'. (or helpctr.exe) Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search.'

Please Help. Thanks very much.

Have you changed the configuration of your machine at all (new software,
etc.) after you received the machine?

You can try using System File Checker (open a Command Window,
and type "sfc /?" for help)

If that doesn't help, you should check with emachines for more info;
something seems strange with their out-of-box install.
