Cannot connect to the internet

Hi, we just got DSL and when I try to connect to the
internet to do the updates, It keeps on telling me that it
cannot connect to the internet. I went into the firewall
station for the service Pack 2 and selected this program to
be ignored, but still no help. Any ideas?

Thanks,
troubled

I take it that you can connect just fine using other programs?

I would try an update reinstall:

control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft Antispyware, change,
update.

I've seen this resolve this error--but the error can be caused by multiple
problems. Having IE or OE set to work offline, will cause it, a temporary
problem at the server end, or in the route between your machine and the
server will cause it.

Hi, I also cannot get a manual update as it says "updates
have failed. Autoupdater could not detect an internet
connection" I have DSL and I know I am not set to work
offline anywhere. I have already uninstalled and
re-installed once and this resolved it only temporarily. I
use FireFox as my default browser with IE for Windows
Updates and for those sites that need it. I also have
PC-cillin Internet Security and I set the autoupdater
"allow" for both in and out but this did not help.

Another "odd" happening is that while I have MAS beta1 open
my Email client Mozilla Thunderbird keeps intermittantly
popping up even if I have not opened it.

It would be nice to have the final release include a place
to configure your internet settings maybe?

Any ideas? Do others having this problem have alternate
browsers and email clients?

Thank you,

Kathy

FYI - Instead of uninstalling as I did previously - I just
clicked on the Change button while in the Add and Remove
program and then clicked on Update. This appeared to
reinstall files without doing a total uninstall. This
worked but only time will tell if it is permanent.

Thanks for trying that without my feeling foolish for posting it!

This function may well work better than reinstalling.

An uninstall leaves files behind--intentionally, I believe. A Reinstall may
leave those files, with user settings, intact.

The update install should reset "user settings" to the defaults, I
believe--including settings you haven't intentionally made!

No Internet Connection For Ms Spyware Updates.

Hi, I See That Several People Are Having Problems With Microsoft Spyware Updates, "no Internet Connection".

Ihad The Same Problem, Mine Was Resloved By Configuring The Norton Firewall, Go To Norton Internet Window, Click On Personal Firewall, Click On Configure, There You Should See A List Of Programs, Find Microspoeft Spyware Ones And Check That No Are Blocked, If They Are Set Them To Automatic.

This Worked For Me After Chat With Helpful Microsoft Staff.
