After getting the error message: "the instructions at 0x745F2780 referenced
memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read", and clicking for details
and getting: "Generic Host Process Win32 service has encountered a problem.
szAppName svchost.exe; szAppVer 5.1.2600.2180; szModName msi.dll; szModVer
3.1.4000.2435 offset 000127810"; my computer won't open more than one program
at a time! Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't respond! After trying system restore,
SpyDefense sends messages saying the following files have been modified and
do I want to allow or block the changes (recommending blocking): HOSTS;
system.ini; control.ini; config.nt; and autoexe.nt. I can open in Safe Mode.
This all started after I thought I turned my computer off but came in in the
morning to find an error message - and it looks like it was in the middle of
installing updates. I had to manually turn off the computer and since then I
have been having this problem.
So, my questions are: 1) is something corrupted (win32, maybe?) and if so,
how do I repair. 2) are the changes SpyDefense is warning me about part of
the "restore" process and should I "allow" them?
Sorry this is so long, but thought I should try to give all the info I
could. Thanks for any advice anyone can provide.
