Can no longer access ANY applications

I have a major problem with my new computer as it seems to be corrupted
somehow. I tried downloading a new program called Corel PhotoStudio X and
when it finished downloading into a temporary directory, it asked me if I
want to launch it, so I clicked on the "launch" button. Then it asked me what
program I wanted to launch it in, but I didn't know, so I selected another
Corel Porgram that I already had. That's when the problem started. Not only
didn't it launch, but now most of the programs on my site no longer open.
When I click on a program, it opens Corel Quattro. No matter which program I
select to start, it opens Corel Quattro. Even the different program icons
showing on the desktop have been changed to the Corel Quattro Icon. I tried
running the program from the "Run" field and entered the proper .exe file,
but it STILL opened Corel Quattro instead.

I even tried to uninstall Corel Quattro and Corel Wordperfect Office, but it
wouldn't let me uninstall anything either :-(

I need HELP!!
Please reply to (e-mail address removed) if you can help
Thanks,

Have you tried system resore, that'll might fix it . My system ran into
problems when there was a power cut while computer was shutting down, after
that I had all sorts of problems, a system restore fixed it.

Type "restore" in the start menu search box.

Good luck

Hi Marcus,
I cannot check this right now, but I'm afraid if I type "restore" in the
start menu search box, it will probbaly just open Quattro again as it seems
to do nothing else. Even when I click on the computer recovery program, it
opens Quattro instead :-(

Thanks.

Have you tried to start the computer in safe mode and then do a system
restore from there?

Try this, (these are the exe associations from my machine) :

Right-click on your Desktop.
Create a new text document.
Copy and paste these four lines:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"
"IsolatedCommand"="\"%1\" %*"

Save the document and change the extension from TXT to REG.
Right-click and select Merge.

That should restore your exe file associations.
