Under what circumstances can I delete these files from c:\WINDOWS, with or
without backing them up?

c:\WINDOWS\$MSI31Uninstall_KB893803*$
c:\WINDOWS\Cache\Adobe Reader 6.0
c:\WINDOWS\Cache\Adobe Reader 6.0.1
(I already upgraded to Adobe Reader 7)
c:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{gibberish}\Microsoft AntiSpyware.msi
(3 files of this description)
c:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\{driver,sp1,sp2}.cab
c:\WINDOWS\Installer\*.msi
(some of the files belong to programs that are already deleted)

Thanks.

Thanks.I wouldn't touch the *.cab files. They are compressed files
with lots of drivers that are tapped into.

As far as the others (I know you said you didn't want to back them
up), consider moving them to a temp directory. If you cause SW or OS
issues you can restore them quickly. If after some time no issues
appear, delete them.

One other possibility would be to add the view of "date accessed" in
detail view of your file viewer in explorer (right click the detail
view headings, click on more, and check the "date accessed" box). Be
aware that this date/time will change/update if you check the
properties of a file and also will update if the file is accessed by
an anti-virus scan, i.e., a full disk scan. Do a reboot and see if
they are accessed...

Just my 2 cents...SG257

c:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\{driver,sp1,sp2}.cab no, if all the others are
no longer installed then yes.
