Burning CDs

HELP!!!! I am using Microsoft Piture It Photo 7.0 After
I download each picture from my digital camera and edit
it, I save it to the same folder in my hard drive (C).
The saved pictures in the hard drive appear as thumbnails
in almost chronological order, but every time I burn them
onto a CD, using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5, they come up in
alphabetic order. As many times as I try to change this,
they still come out in alphabetic order on the CD. Is
there some default setting that I am missing?

You are not missing any default setting. This is the way it works. Files
will be copied on the CD by numerical/alphabetical order.
You can control the order by renaming.
To try this:
1. Make a new folder
2. Open the folder where your pictures are and select the any view
(thumbnails, details etc.). Hold the Ctrl key down and press the letter A.
This will select (highlight in blue) all the files in the folder.
3. Look at the menu on the left and click on Copy to. A window will open,
select the new folder you just made so the files will be copied there.
4. Open the new folder. Select the thumbnails view. With your mouse, move
the thumbnails to place them in the order you want them. For example, if you
want the last file to be in the middle, click on it with your mouse and move
it between two thumbnails in the middle and release the mouse.
5. Once you have the order you want, hold the Ctrl key down and press the
letter A. This will select (highlight in blue) all the files.
6. Right click on the first thumbnail in the folder (important to right
click on the first one because renaming will start from there).
7. On the opening menu, click on Rename.
8. Replace the name with something you want, such as year, month, event.
Type in something like:
2003_09_Virginia Beach Vacation (1).jpg
and press the Enter key.
All the files will be renamed automatically and your folder will look like
this:
2003_09_Virginia Beach Vacation (1).jpg
2003_09_Virginia Beach Vacation (2).jpg
etc until the end. When you copy them to the CD they will remain in this
order.

Two thing to remember.
1. Look at the above file name. There is a space between the last character
of the file name and (1). You need to have a space there.
2. You need to have .jpg after (1). If you forget to enter .jpg you will get
a warning from XP. Go back and enter .jpg otherwise renaming will take place
but you will not be able to open the file.

This method is also convenient to make a slide show from files in different
folders. Just make a new folder, copy the different files in it, place them
in the order you want and then rename. Again, if you copy to the CD they
will stay in this order.
