browseui.dll

Is this an actual system file? If so, why does Microsoft
AntiSpyware block the following and if not, what is it?

Microsoft AntiSpyware has detected a Windows Shell
Browser trying to be added. A Shell Browser is a toolbar
that is inserted into Window's Explorer or Internet
Explorer giving it control over your computer.

Name: Microsoft Windows Operating System
Description: Shell Browser UI Library
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
Path: c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll

I'm not a limited user. Hopefully the issue will be
resoloved for full administators too?

Couple more thoughts then.

1) Does the blocking of this dll compromise IE at all as
far as its functionality or stability goes?
2) Is there some way to allow it?
3) This is not a consistent problem. If in fact
Microsoft cannot fix this bug I think they may as well
scrap it. As I said I'm the only user with full
administrative rights. I can only imagine how confusing
it must be for the program to sort out more than one user.

You are using a "beta" program that is still under development. If you are
not ready to handle the associated problems that may occur due to using a
beta program - don't use it. By using the program, YOU become a tester for
said program.

And tyvm for your informative reply. Yes I have used
this "BETA" program since it became available. And I am
more than capable of dealing with a beta program. And up
until this last update I have had nothing but praise for
the program - and for Microsoft support. You just blew
away my favorable feelings in that regard. You could
easily answer my question 1 and 2 I am sure. Point #3
brings up a point that you have ignored. You keep
talking issues for limited users. I am not a limited
user.
Anyway thank for taking the time to address my
questions. Your superior knowledge has enhanced my low
level of knowledge considerably.
Enjoy your day.

If that file is damaged, errors can occur:

Hmm--doesn't the dialog box ask you to either block or allow?

This is a very unusual beta. Microsoft bought a third party product, and
published the beta within 21 days of the purchase of the company. Since
then, they've done some minor revs, and some significant under the
hood--i.e. not visible really--improvements.

Rather than fixing bugs which don't impede the normal use of the product,
they've chosen to put their efforts into producing a beta2 version. Beta2
will require substantial reworking of the program in many ways.
Localization will require substantial changes to the UI for example.

The nits in this beta1 version are annoying, but let's see what they come up
with for beta2.

This beta product has no support from Microsoft. The support in these
groups is peer support, by volunteers who use the program just as you do--so
Microsoft is neither to blame for the quality of support you find here, nor
responsible for it.

Thank you for your reply and your explantion. It gives
me considerably more answers than the cast out by Mr.
Urban, MVP. As for Microsoft not being responsible for
the replies and Beta versions I understand that
completely. However when someone replies with the MVP
designation they have identified themselves as a
Microsoft representative. I would expect that person to
act according to Microsoft's philosophy on customer
service and/or relations.

The answer to your question is no. I do not get the
option of "block or allow".

As to whether or not it is damaged I don't know. I don't
get page errors since it doesn't. I do get abrupt
closures of IE but since browseui.dll doesn't load I'm
not what the relationship is, if any.

At this point I think I will disable or remove Microsoft
AntiSpyware completely, since I cannot get a definitive
answer as to whether or not this is a legitimate block or
not.

MVP's are independent of Microsoft--and proud of that. The MVP recognition
is based on past performance--

MVP's are expected to maintain a professional demeanour in the groups, but
not necessarily to support Microsoft or be positive about all aspects of the
company or its products.
(and I should confess to also being a moderately long term MVP myself!)
MVP's are volunteers, in the end--and like everyone else we have good days
and bad days.

If you are in any way uncomfortable about the beta--that's the appropriate
action to take.

I'm sorry I can't give you a clear answer--all that I know is that I've seen
what I believe to be the same message you are seeing, and investigated it at
the time, and believe that it was not due to any malware, but perhaps a bug
in the beta product.

Beta2 will be out before the end of the year--keep an eye out for publicity
about that--it should resolve a great many issues we are seeing now.
