Internet Explorer bar alert

Opened my Search toolbar (set to Google as default months ago) for the 4th or
5th time today, and just now got this Alert re Explorer Bar Microsoft Windows
Operating System (Shell Browser UI Library, publisher-MS,
path-c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll): "An internet Explorer bar requires
your approval." When I clicked Block, got "Blocking this Explorer bar can
cause problems to the applications that require this program. Did a search
and seems to be needed for Windows to work correctly, so I allowed it.
I'm concerned as i have not installed any new software recently, and did not
expect to see this alert. Did I do right by allowing it???
Have XP home ed, Norton internet security antispyware edition 2005, CWS, MS
Beta, Spybot, Adaware .Everything up to date.
Any advice appreciated! Thanks, K
