boot directory in vista

By accident I restored an image from my NAS to my C drive in directory
c:\temp. I wanted to delete this directory but all what I get is the message
that the directory cannot be deleted due to write protection.

Be aware...I have a working vista system...but by accident I copied part of
an old image with in it the directory boot and sub-directories to c:\temp.
Within this directory there are sub-dirs and countries mentined and you find
memtest.exe and bootmgr.exe etc.

No problems but I cannot delete this un-neccesary fies and directories.

Who helps me out...I tried already a dosbox, a filemanager, changing
attributes etc.

Thanks...dimov000

Hello,

did you try changing permissions? Right-click the folder, go to the tab
Security, click Advanced -> tab Owner -> Edit -> choose your name.
Then, back to the first Security tab, make sure that you have all
permissions, and make also sure that a group you belong to doesn't have any
restricted permissions.

Hope this helps.

As you prposed I did already several times...but he doesn't give any
permission or rigths te delete them.
Believe me...I did all watwas possible. The wrtie disk protection nails
hem....

In first beginning I succeeded in move this directory to move from users
documents to c:\temp and now it's impossible. Even a move of files is
impossible.

Who know...even in dos...he refuses to be deleted.

Have you tried booting up in safe mode and try it ? I have had some files
that wouldnt let me delete them but in safe mode it worked just fine.

Thanks for your help....but with any changing in permissions he comes with
the message that memtest.exe is not permitted to delete and so it does with
all other files.

To be honest...I am afraid that I will stick with this.....but
hope...somewhere and somebody knows the ultimate answer.

I am so negative....because vista has so many security in it that they see
the files not as a copy of the originals but as the original.

Let's hope somebody....comes up....by the way....also I cannot switch on UAC
because then after a reboot and starting up...after 2 seconds he is shutting
down.....and refuses to start-up with UAC. Not that I need it but it should
be nice to have the oppurtunity.

Thanks a lot....I wiil visit your site....I also own 8 sites....and always
nice to sniff around.

See you..........dimov000 (http://samson-dimov.nl)

Hello,

I'm sorry that it didn't help.
One last thing you could try: In the Properties -> tab Security ->
Advanced -> tab Owner -> Edit window, you can "Replace owner on
subcontainers and objects". Secondly, still in the Advanced window ->click
tab Permissions -> click Edit.
In the window, uncheck "Include inheritable permissions..." and choose
Remove. Then, click "Add..." and add your username and System.
In the bottom, choose "Replace all existing inheritable permissions...".

Please try this and report back. I hope you are successful.

I tried...even as administrator...and starting to do what you proposed...and
even in secure mode....with dos command....it will not work.
I used even total commander...which is dutch file manager and hops over the
permission but...it failed.
My normal file manager exploer2 also refuses.
I hope there is somewhere a solution....but even on dos level it will not
succeed. The attribs for dirs and files of boot dir in temp dir stay on D....

Let's hoipe for some other clues or answers

Thanks for the quick response.
