I have a query with a 54g wireless notebook card which I hope you can assist
with.

The card is installed in a Hewlett Packard laptop, and is being used to
connect with a Buffalo G54 wireless router / access point. The laptop is
running windows xp home edition, with service pack two.

Using either the belkin software or windows wireless zero configuration
software I am unable to connect to the network or the internet. Both types
of software report that the access point is being found on the system but
the card will not connect to it.

The driver that is installed during the automated setup is different to that
shown in the manual - it's a 'generic' wireless g adapter driver, rather
than the belkin one. However, I have found the correct 54g belkin driver on
the cd and installed it manually - no difference.
The device reports in system properties as being ok and working correctly.

The icon in the system tray remains red all the time, even though the
software reports that an access point has been found. Furthermore, the mac
address that the belkin software is showing as being the access point is
different to that stamped on the casing of the access point. There doesn't
appear to be any way of amending this to show the correct information. The
mac address is reported correctly when using windows wireless software.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything to no avail. I have disabled
the windows software and just used the belkin software - again, no
difference.

I have run out of ideas - help please!:(

I have had the exact same problem, and have helped 1 other person with it.

Uninstall the card drivers, uninstall SP2, reinstall the card, this should fix the problem. it took me ages to work out what was wrong with mine.

There is a problem with SP2 that happenes on some machines

I hope this helped!

Thanks for the advice - I've tried what you suggest, no luck though, still can't connect! The card sees the wireless network but just will not 'log on'. It did work briefly yesterday for a couple of minutes, but then stopped again. I've also removed the HP wireless network drivers just in case they could be causing a conflict, to no avail. Any more thoughts anyone?

Just a question, on this forum, i have been sugested not to post an email address here...

becuase it will attract spammers, and i think this is a good suggestion...

So you may want to edit it out!
