Basic Windows/Photo Files Question

I am trying to combine photos of the same vacation from TWO sets (files) of
photos into a single file in chronological order, and Windows won't let me.
When I click and drag a photo from one file to the other and try to drop the
photo where I want it, it always automatially drops it at the bottom of the
file, under all the exisiting ones. How do I arrange files into the order I
want them to STAY in, so when I view them as a slide show, they'll be in
chronological order? Should I create a whole new (third) file and click and
drag the photos from the exisiting files, and if so, will they stay in that
order? Thanks!

I am assuming you are merging photos between two FOLDERS. Windows just
orders the files by filename, so it will not keep the order you are trying
to get unless you rename them to be in alphabetical order. I can't think of
any way to order them in Windows without renaming them.

You could use a batch renaming program like Irfanview (free at
www.irfanview.com) and rename the pictures in increments of 10. Then do the
same with the other set of photos using the same name but a different
increment. Then you could more easily rename them to fit in. Still not easy.

If you are trying to created a slide show, you can use PhotoStory 3 ( a
freebie from Microsoft.com) which allows you to order the pictures in a
slide show any way you want them.

Google's free Picassa might be a help in this, but I don't use it, so maybe
someone else can provide that view.

In addition to what the previous poster said, when you move files from one
folder to another, Explorer always puts them at the bottom of the list just
to avoid refreshing the display.
What you should try is to exit the subject folder and then return. The
files will then appear in lexical order.

If you don't like that order, rename the files, with whatever method you
have, to change the lexical order of the files.
