Backup system state over network?

In Windows 2000 Server Unleashed, it says that system state cannot be
backed up or restored
over a network. Am I interpreting this in the wrong way? How is backing up
system state to a *.bkf file
on another server different from backing it up "over the network".

Thanks,

I think what you will find, is that you can backup a machines system state
to a file on a dif machine, but you can not backup the system state of one
Machine from a dif machine. i.e. if your backup software is on machine01 it
can only backup the system state of machine01 and NOT machine02.

It would seem to defeat the purpose of a system
state backup to store it on a network share-what if
whatever system change you're gonna make that triggered you to
make the backup in the first place breaks the network?

You won't be able to restore...

No.

Tape access can get broken too.

A non-RAID (drivers have to load
and software RAID arrays may not work) disk may
be the best target. If the system gets so hosed you can't
boot from it, then SS likely won't help you until you
do a complete reinstall anyway.

Once everything's running OK, you can archive the SS
to a CD-R for future reference. Just remember to
copy it back to the HD and set the read-only attrib to
RW before you try to restore.
