AVG Free edition question in XP

M

mistersmitty

I have a dual partition with WIN98 and XP.I use AVG Free and in
Outlook on WIN98 there is an icon in the STANDARD toolbar. In XP there
is NO ICON in the toolbar.I reinstalled AVG with the latest free
edition but it still did not show up.

Does this mean my e-mail in XP is not being scanned? Why is AVG not
showing up in the toolbar?

Any answers greatly appreciated.

I may not completely understand what you wrote so these questions may seem
strange. Have you also installed AVG in XP? If so have you checked the box
for the email protection once you have AVG in the tray? To do that double
click on the AVG tray icon and look at the tabs, you'll see one for the
E-Mail plugin, and check all of the boxes and hit apply. And have you tried
to send yourself a test message so that you can see if AVG put it's
signature at the bottom of the page? If that signature isn't there I would
say that it's not installed right or a setting is wrong.

Good Luck!

<<Outlook?????>> Ya talking about Outlook Express; "OE"?

On my WinXP installs, I have the AVG free version installed as
well. Where the icon presents in Win98SE on the OE toolbar, if
ya run your cursor over it ya'll find a phantom icon... it's
always been that way here. Important thang is that in the OE
menu bar > Tools ya'll have an AVG menu cascading option. If ya
don't; then goto the AVG Control Center in the systray, and pick
the email scanker tab, and elect all those options - then when
ya restart the app, or reboot (i ferget witch) whoops, thar
she'll be fer ya.

If ya are talking about "M$ Outlook", maybe it'll be about the
same - but I don't think AVG ever had a plug-in fer Outlook,
only fer Outlook Express. She's always been a bit picky that
way.

You could run over here:

http://www.grisoft.cz/beta/avgemc/avgemc_en.htm

and grab a copy of this dingy little deal. Then the icon will
spin around like crazy when yer downloading yer mail in OE.
It's alot o' fun but it's only snarffed one virii fer me so I
don't know if it's worth the all the trollbull fer everyone.
