Downloading instructions for current users of the AVG Free Edition

If you are using AVG Free and would like to evaluate the AVG Anti-Virus
plus Firewall Beta Version, follow these steps:

1. Download the latest AVG Free installation package
2. Start the installation of AVG Free
3. Choose the -uninstall- option and follow the setup wizard
4. Restart your computer
5. Download and read the AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall user manual
6. Download the installation package for AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall
7. Start the AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall installation
8. During the installation, make sure that the Firewall component is
selected in the setup wizard dialog
9. Finish the installation

* To return to using AVG Free, uninstall AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall.
Check that you have the latest version of the AVG Free installation
package and install AVG Free.
Use the following license number to install AVG Anti-Virus plus
Firewall:

Hello,

You seem to have cut and pasted some bits incorrectly. Much easier to go to
the website and follow the instructions. I am left wondering why anyone
running the FREE version would want to try another that they would end up
having to pay for if chosen. The FREE version does just about everything a
home user needs. You're better off sometimes not having a virus killer and
firewall in the same package, just incase it goes mad and switches off, or
is switched off. Better to use a FREE version of Zone Alarm (firewall) and
you will never really need to touch it once it has asked you which programs
can access the Internet and which are not allowed to act as a server.

The version you describe isn't FREE anyway, it will require a subscription.

Well, Rob is right. Grisoft has $$ on their minds. They should put
this piece of s--- back in its cage, where it belongs. It DOES goes mad
and will turn itself off when you least expect it. The free
alternatives are much better.

This should include uninstalling your present firewall IMO, and in that
case I would like to add:

6a: Make sure (especially when on broadband) that you are NOT connected
to the Internet, as you may have a worm/trojan installed on your box in
seconds

9a: Reconnect to the Internet (may require a reboot).

In general: Don't mess around with security software in beta, unless
you know darn well what you're doing, what could happen (and how to
figure out THAT it is happening), and how to fix it yourself (as the
Internet connection could be gone, and access to external support
wouldn't be present).

Why are you posting this now? This is old news. The beta is dated
4/22/05. Nothing new here...
