autoupdater can't connect to internet

My summary shows that my system hasn't been updated since it was installed.
I tried the manual update, and get the diagnostic listed in the subject. I
can't find anywhere where I can tell the spyware program how to get to the
internet. All of my other internet connections are working well.

1. How do I get the progrm to find my internet connection?
2. Would un-installing it, then re-installing it help?

If your running a software firewall it should allow MSAS processes to
access the Internet. These processes are:

from Mikolaj Kaminski

1. GiantAntiSpywareMain.exe (the primary Microsoft AntiSpyware application)
2. GiantAntiSpywareUpdater.exe (provides functionality to update the latest
spyware definitions)
3. gcasDtServ.exe (provides access to SpyNet for reporting unknown applications)
4. gcasServAlert.exe (provides access to SpyNet for reporting unknown
applications)
5. gcasSWUpdater.exe (should also be allowed to access the Internet for updates)

Dave,

I tested your firewall hypothesis by turning it off temporarily. It is of
the Symantec variety. The update did work then. Thanks.

However, it said that my current set of definitions is current. They are
dated 0/0/0 version 12. It appears that updates of definitions is another
feature not being maintained in the beta version, somewhat similar to the
spyware report feature you described to me in an earlier post. I'm
disappointed, because if definitions aren't updated the beta will become
ineffective over time.

I'll try turning on the processes you listed so my firewall won't stop them,
and will report back later.

PS:

Dave,

Do you think the fix described in post "definitions 5777 is available" dated
11/17 avoid this lack of update problem?

Hi again thuse;
Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been away. No, I don't really think
there's much you can do about the lack of swift definition updates on an ongoing
basis, other than wait for Beta2 and the advent of updates through the Microsoft
update process, or manually intervening. I find that my updates complete
successfully only after 2 or 3 days pass beyond this forum's announcement of
their "availability". Never-less, you should get delayed updates within a
similar timeframe. Perhaps it's my geographic location, perhaps a bug within
the program, or a lack of divine intervention. ;)

Do not uninstall then re-install unless you get a critical error message. I
did that and my firewall detected application hijacking immediately after
re-installation.
