Auto update and spyware?

My auto update notified me there were updates. after
installation was complete, I was told computer needed to
be restarted. after restarting, there was an almost
screen sized ad for a phone co (glophone maybe?) and my
SPysweeper program was telling me the "bargain buddy"
spyware had been installed on my computer. was this from
microsoft? or is there some type of security issue with
their auto update program? thanks.

Joe;
It was not from Microsoft.
It was most likely from another site.
It possibly finished installing after the reboot thus it appeared to
arrive at the same time.
