Repost of Automatic Update Problem

C

Carson

I have always selected the option to have updates downloaded automatically
and for me to choose which to install. Installed Norton AV 2009 version
about 3 days ago. Yesterday, I got the red icon on the task manager telling
me that the auto update was off. I have tried to turn it on without success
and the windows update site is giving me problems as well. Have ran scans
with Adaware/Spybot/Malwarebytes/Norton AV and nothing shows. I think a rogue
program may have changed either the registry or my services group. The
service for Automatic Updates is missing as are the 2 required registry
entries. Also after a startup the BITS is turned off.
Any step by step help or suggestions please to affect a correction

The 'rogue program' just may be NAV 2K9 since updating worked before
installing it, correct ? I've heard good things about that edition of
NAV but ... YMMV.
BTW, where and when did you make your original post of an AU problem ?

In regards to MBAM, was this recently installed and did you check for
updates for it prior to running it ?
