an error occurred during directory enumeration in windows 2000

iam getting this error when i try to copy system file
from c:\winnt\system32\config to temp directory .iam using
this to revovery console to resore my os.

Cause
=======

If the existing partition as damaged you may get "directory enumeration
error" it will force you to reformat the partition before continuing.
It sounds as if the directory structure of the disk is very badly damaged.

Solution
========
Mike try this option first run "chkdsk c: /r" which would repair and fix
the bad sectors in your harddisk.
or
Do the in place upgrade. Just basically reload your operating system. It
will only do an upgrade, other wise it will wipe out the software. Once you
do the upgrade it will replace your missing files and be its old self
again. Go to Microsoft Update and load all the patches.You will find it
under tools on your internet browser
