Barry,

OK, to start, you are running IPX as well as NetBIOS. IPX is a redundant
protocol, and having it on your LAN can interfere with diagnosis of your
problem.

Please start by redundant protocols from the list of items under Local Area
Connection Properties. You only need the following items in the list:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler (optional)
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Reboot and rerun browstat and ipconfig on both computers, and post updated
output.

To repeat an earlier question (apologies if we covered this before), did you
enable the Guest account, using Start - Run - "cmd" - type "net user guest
/active:yes" in the command window, on both computers?

Guest account is enabled under system in "control panel" ( I am unable to do
this in "cmd" as it doesn't like the syntax. Both computers are the same. I
removed redundent protocals from both computers except for "service
advertising protocol" on Barry. This is greyed and I am not able to uncheck.
Here's the new Browstat.

Guest account is enabled under system in "control panel" ( I am unable to do
this in "cmd" as it doesn't like the syntax.

Barry,

This may part of your problem.

Control Panel - Users lets you enable an account for local use, as in to logon
to that computer with that account. You have to either do "net user guest
/active:yes", or use Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management
- Local Users and Groups - Users, to enable an account for network access. The
difference between the two procedures has been discussed in this forum for
months, and it took me a few tries to understand, but I assure you the
distinction is valid.

Do "net user /?" and tell me exactly what you get back. Learn how to Mark,
Copy, and Paste from a command window. Learn how to Copy and Paste into a
command window, and copy - paste "net user guest /active:yes" (less the "").
Unless your system is truly buggered, if you type the commands character for
character, I assure you this should work.

Master name cannot be determined from GetAdapterStatus.

These entries - "\Device\NwlnkNb" and "\Device\NwlnkIpx" make it obvious that
you have NOT removed all unnecessary protocols.

Looking at CDiags for Barry and Maureen, I see no problem with Barry pinging nor
viewing itself nor Maureen. Maureen cannot view Barry, that is currently the
only problem I see.

You say you have only Windows Firewall on either Barry or Maureen. Do you have
any other security products on either (Norton, McAffee, Symantec etc)?

That Browstat was from barry.
I had unchecked the unnecessary protocols but they were checked. I unchecked
them again.
You have the problem correct. Barry can access Maureen but not vice
versa.Barry is the
Gateway and has the printer.
Security products on barry- Norton anti-virus,Ad-Aware SE Personal, Trojan
Guarder Gold Full Version,
HiJack This, Sptbot-Search and Destroy.
Maureen has Norton anti-virus.

Here's ipconfig and Browstat from barry.

Barry,

Is IPX un installed from Barry? To do that, you need to go into Local Area
Connection Properties, select NWLink IPX/SPX, and Uninstall. Not go into the
protocol list and uncheck.

To ensure accuracy, once IPX is removed, we need a complete picture of your
situation. This includes browstat, ipconfig, and cdiag run on both computers,
all taken at approximately the same time. Remember, the contents of ipconfig
feed the code in CDiag.

It would also help if your cdiag code would be exactly as I posted it some time
ago. The Microsoft scripting language in which it is written may look like
gobbledygook to many folks, but it is very syntax dependent, and very precise.

Only with accurate and complete diagnostics can we accurately identify the
problem.

Just wondering if you got my last post. I replied on the 15 Dec. with the
info you asked for . It may have gotten out of sequence.

Hi Barry,

In the other threadlet I explained the difference between unchecking a protocol
(from binding?) and un installing the protocol altogether. You need to un
install IPX/SPX, then rerun browstat on both computers.

After that I lost track where we are. You have replied a couple times, but I
wasn't sure which of my posts your updates were responding to.

At any rate, if you've un installed IPX/SPX from Barry, I guess we need to see
what we've accomplished. So, I'd like to see browstat, cdiag, and ipconfig from
each computer once again, and see what changes we have since the last time.

Remember that a successful cdiag depends upon all names and ip addresses from
all ipconfig listings, so it's good to run both, for all computers, at the same
time. With DHCP to consider, if a computer was to use a different ip address,
we'd totally get confused by results from cdiag.
