A SAD SAD REALIZATION

from Elliot Carver in 007's "The World is Not Enough":

Carver- "Mr Jones are we ready to release our new software?"
Jones- "Yes sir, as requested, it's full of bugs. Which means people will
be
forced to upgrade for years."
Carver- "Outstanding."

I wonder where they got the inspiration for that? lol
MS products are so infested they've become punchlines in movies

Very true. No one updates their Macs or their linux distros.

Classic response...
it has been posted here time and time again, that even after having used
MS's own HCL and Upgrade Advisor that the results were, shall we say,
misleading?

In my case the UA said everything was fine, only to find out later that my
video card, soundcard, modem and internal card reader are all doorstops.

please quit towing the party line, it ain't working any more

You did not understand the UA. It said your hardware was fine and it is.
Once proper drivers are released.

Do you actually think I would be talking if my experience was on a few of my
own machines?

I say HUNDREDS of computers... not mine alone.

YOU are telling a lie boy.. I seldom came accross on the hundreds of
computers

You are living in a fantasy world!
I worked on, having problems using a win2k driver, in fact most of the
time the vendors called them 2k/xp drivers becuause they were one and the
same! If a hardware did not have any xp driver
the vendors would say go ahead use the 2k one!

I can recall over the years only 1-2 times that a driver for win2k would
not work with XP.
All the rest you had a warning that the driver was not signed but you
could ignore that and it worked.

Over the years? What the hell are you talking about? When XP was RELEASED,
there were tons of hardware devices that had no proper drivers. It wasn't
until LATER that new drivers were released.

For some insane reason you seem to think no new drivers will be released to
allow old hardware to work with Vista. You are wrong.

That's a lie. You already made it clear in another post that you are
speaking of YEARS of experience.

Vista hasn't been out for YEARS so you're just talking gibberish.

I said when XP was released! Then you replied that over the course of YEARS
the drivers where fine? Apples and oranges.

K

Heck I even was able to use some NT3.5 drivers on XP now that i think of
it... lol

Fantasy? Not likely ...I have fixed hundreds of computers of all kinds ok?

I have also supported thousands of people over the internet giving advice in
newsgroups
right from the start that XP existed.

I have had XP since it was out... and XP is the best OS MS has ever made...
Vista is a peice of trash.

I'm sure that's possible. Ok.
Fantasy? Not likely ...I have fixed hundreds of computers of all kinds ok?

Ok, but did you fix them the month XP was released? Second month? Hundreds
sounds like years.

I have also supported thousands of people over the internet giving advice
in newsgroups
right from the start that XP existed.

And you NEVER heard of any driver incompatibility? Hum...

I have had XP since it was out... and XP is the best OS MS has ever
made...
Vista is a peice of trash.

Well, ok. That's your opinion. You're entitled to it.

Can you at least agree that more and more drivers are released for Vista
weekly? Compatibility will continue to rise?

Why? Because my Vista machines all run fine? It's not imaginary.

I'll tell you what. You write up a list of all the short comings of Vista
and I'll try to work on a video that proves otherwise.

Note, I'll agree on some of the shortcomings.

Geez Justin, you having a bad day?

First explain how any hardware works without a driver. Seems to be
what you're implying.

As far as new drivers, yes Justin, many companies have already
announced they WILL NOT support some of their older hardware with new
Vista drivers. Example: Both HP and Epson, two of the major printer
manufacturers. Ditto for some scanners, network cards etc..

This space reserved for Justin to repeat his whine you need to buy new
hardware line of crap.

Justin's whine space =====> <===== reserved

Please continue to post misinformation so it can get quickly
corrected.

Listen buster... they could have retained driver compatibility

Not without compromising the security of the new OS.
You obviously have done little reading about why the OS kernel
had to be changed to take drivers out of Ring 0.

Oh demand for vista drivers is very high and pressure is very big for the
vendors to make updates.
Some hardware will die however.. its OK... I don't mind personally...

I want to change hardware from time to time anyway... but other people might
not have the luxury to buy new peripherals or cards...

Vista with some time will have drivers and the bugs will be ironed out, and
new multicore CPUs will come out (they are planning 100 core cpus in 5
years) and flash solid state hard drives will come out.... so all the
current problems that vista has will vanish.. all but one. The gui design.

For that again I personally don't mind that much, because I can customize it
to my taste.. but not everyone can do that. It is the average Joe that I am
considering.. not me.

As for XP, I was very good at fishing for drivers to make old hardware work
on XP.. it was not easy always...its true... I was very persistent and most
of the times found solutions.

I watched that channel 9 video. WAY over my head! :) I guess I don't
develop drivers for a reason.

Not at all, learn how to read.

Hey everyone!!! Did anyone else read my post and think I was implying
hardware can run without any drivers?

Same with XP. What's your point? Besides not having one???

When OSX was released we had to junk large format printers and copiers.

Stay within SCOPE of the conversation.

Check it out adam, you see how kirk and I don't 100% see eye to eye yet we
can have a normal conversation? You should try it some time!

Absolutely! I had to throw away a scanner when XP was released. I had no
sound for months!

This time, my scanner works and I just got sound yesterday!
I want to change hardware from time to time anyway... but other people

True. But we all still urge people to wait for new drivers. No one
recommends these people upgrade until they have all their drivers.

You mentioned that before. What do you not like about the GUI? I love it!
It got rid of all screen tearing.
For that again I personally don't mind that much, because I can customize
it to my taste.. but not everyone can do that. It is the average Joe that
I am considering.. not me.

Ok, so you think the average joe doesn't like the GUI. Because of looks?
I'm surprised they don't release more themes. One is kind of arrogant.

Wow! Great contribution!

Anyway this branch was cleared up in another post.

He's fixed hundreds of computers but he didn't come into XP until 2002.
Most of the problems were in 2001.

No lying. No problems.
