814078: Security Update

O

Oliver

Hi all,
Does anyone know how I can stop my systems to be updated
on a dayly basis by the security patch 814078. I have the
problem, that my system will install this patch every
other day up to daily. I experience this on two different
W2K workstations as well as XP home edition. the
interesting part is that the installation history shows
each installation.

BTW this problem occurs also at some mashines of collegues
of mine.

Thanks for help,
Oliver

I have the same problem with this patch. I've even tried
installing it manually. I've also verified that after
installing the patch and rebooting that I have the correct
version of the c:\winnt\system32\jscript.dll file, i.e.
5.6.0.8513. According to what I've been able to find out,
the point of the patch is to update this file to this
particular version. Any help would be appreciated!

OK, I was having the same problem as well and after
researching it exhaustively, I went to the following web
site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/list/webdev.asp
) and downloaded and then re-installed Windows Script 5.6
for my OS, the filename being scripten.exe.

After rebooting and re-registering c:\winnt\system32
\jscript.dll to be on the safe side (start -> run ->
regsvr32 jscript.dll), I checked the version of
jscript.dll and found that it now read 5.6.0.8515. It had
been 5.6.0.8513.

According to the specs for update 814078, the patch is
supposed to bring your jscript.dll file up to version
5.6.8513, which it does. This apparently removes the
security flaw but also introduces the update bug we were
having. Re-installing Windows Script 5.6 seems to fix
both problems.
