Problem with Security Update 835732

Bill Russell

I been attempting to load this on a Windows 2000 system
with all other critical updates previously loaded. After
loading the patch, I get a 30-60 second delay after the
logon prompt comes up before I am able to enter a user
name/password. There is a lot of hard drive activity
going on during this time. The Application event log
shows 5 instances of the following error. Source:
PlugPlayManager; EventID: 256; Description: Timed out
sending notification to device interface change to window
of "". There is no program listed between the quotation
marks.

When I deinstall the patch through add/remove programs,
the delay and event log notifications go away.

This is happening on several of my workstations with
totally different hardware, however is not occuring on all
workstations within my organization.

I've seen that other people are experiencing the same
problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction to
resolve this.

Thanks,
Bill Russell

Hi Andrew -

Thanks for your suggestion. If worked on half of my machines, but not
all.
What is also interesting is that I get the same problem on a machine
that has four drives on the two IDE controllers.
