Hi again Group,

I just put in 2 x 512 MB RAM into my XP Pro (AMD 2500) computer. Now my
"system Properties" is telling me that I only have 448MB. What have I done
wrong? Help would be greatly appreciated

My GOD man - Learn to crosspost! This multiple posting is getting old FAST!

Did you make sure (manuals) that your computer (hardware) could handle that
much RAM?
If you did, did you verify the type/speed?
If you did, did you verify the placement?

You likely have onboard video that is using 64MB hence the 448MB being
displayed. 448+64=512. So it looks like only one stick is being recognized.
Try removing a stick to see if the system runs. If so swap it out. You may
have a bad stick or you may have the RAM not properly seated so only one
stick is being recognized. Remember that with onboard video you will have
the total physical RAM "minus" the amount of onboard RAM used. So with
1024MB you should only have 1024 - 64 = 960MB showing.

Great answer Harry: Boy, these boards are filling terribly
with non-answers lately. KUDOS.

I had the same problem on an Athalon 3200+ (2nd new different brand
stick not being recognized.) I was pretty sure it was seated properly
because the clips were down in place on both ends.. So I removed my
original Samsung 512 & put in the new Patriot into the same slot the
Samsung was in, & the patriot was recognized. I then added the
Samsung into the 2nd slot & it was all Ok then.

I am not saying I am an expert and it was for sure, and It may have
been an improperly seating the 1st time, but it doesn't seem possible
if both clips were all the way down on both ends.

The only difference between the 2 besides the name was the bus speed
they said they were - the Samsung was 166 or 133 MHz (can't rememeber0
& the Patriot said 333 Mhz. But I was told that shouldn't make any
difference and the faster would slow down to the slower's speed.
