2 active sysvol directories on the GC/DC

D

Daniel Burkard

We have a situation where we moved sysvol to a separate
drive/SCSI channel (D) for performance reasons. In the
course of troubleshooting a problem the sysvol directory
tree was duplicated on the C drive in the normal place.
Somehow both sysvol directories are active. Changes in
either one replicate out to the remaining DC's. The
question is, has anyone successfully dealt with a
situation like this?

I have seen a similar issue. When you move or copy sysvol it may create a
new junction point to the new location while maintaining the correct
junctioon. There is a utility called linkd.exe on Windows 2000 that will
allow you to view, add and delete junction points.

To view the current links run:
linkd c:\winnt\sysvol\sysvol\domain.com

Look for the link that is not valid and use linkd /d source to delete it.
