1000 slide presentation

I am making a PowerPoint 2007 slide show of family pictures (jpgs) spanning
100 years for my Mother's 100th birthday -ideally it would hold about 1,000
slides to include all 50 close decendents from babyhood to adulthood. I am up
to 125 slides and 28mgs and the presentation is struggling. Is it PowerPoint
or my system that is the limiting factor? Should I break it up into a number
of smaller presentations and link them; if so, where do I find linking
instructions? Any suggestions welcome.

sboyd,

Have you considered using Windows Movie Maker for your project? (Free from
MS web site) It might be much better suited for this and its final output
is a video that is easily distributed or burned to DVD.

Three precautions to take:

- Reduce the size of the pictures, before you insert them. (800x600 to
1500x1125 pixel is enough for full-size images.)

- Never insert large numbers of images via Copy & Paste, always use Insert -
Image from file.

- Split up the presentation in smaller parts. In your case probably covering
10 to 20 years.

To link several presentations, insert a hyperlink to the next one on the
last slide.

Best regards,
Ute

sboyd,

I'd consider using the software Austin suggested - windows movie maker.

However, if you must use powerpoint, then there is a linking tutorial here
http://www.awesomebackgrounds.com/powerpointlinking.htm

You could also use a menu system to split things up...details here

it PowerPoint or my system that is the limiting factor?
The less you give powerpoint to do - the better

Just ab info: nothing has changed since the 3 or 4th version:
File weight: no limit
max presentations opened: 35
max slides per presentation: RAM limit
Max objects per slide: 2048

Anyway, the less it weights, the best it works
