No embedded pictures or pictures from slide design in preview pane

I had been working on a powerpoint presentation using 2003 on my desktop.
All fine. It was saved on the network and opened using a different computer
that had powerpoint 2002. It was saved and closed.
Ever since then, we have pulled up that particular presentation and any
other presentations, any pictures on the slides, including pictures contained
in the slide design template do not show up in the slide viewing pane. They
show up on the left hand slide in the thumbnails, you can see them when
running the slide show, and they show up in the slide sorter. But when you
are actually working on the slides, they do not appear in the main window.
If you click where they are located, the outside box appears, but the picture
does not.

Any help?

Have you applied Service Pack 1 to your PowerPoint 2003? Go to the Help
menu and choose Check for Updates. Follow the instructions. Many weird
things happen in 2003 if SP1 is not applied.

Right-click the online picture, choose Save Target As and save to your
harddrive.

Then in PPT use Insert/Picture/From File to insert the saved picture onto
your slide.

That said, you do know that, just because you're able to save a picture from
the web doesn't necessarily mean you have *permission* to use it, right? Be
aware of copyright laws.

Copyrights? Just kidding - if being used for educational purposes,
generally you can use a picture without obtaining a copyright - but check
first!

Thank you so much for all of your help!
