Ok, I know you experts have answered this loads of times and are probably
getting fed up with this same question.

In windows mail, I have "pop3" and "smtp" for incoming & out going e-mail.
I know by scrolling through some of the answers here, that you are probably
going to ask me to post the whole error message in full which I will do in
due course. I would however, like to know how to stop these error messages
appearing, 0x800ccc0e and 0x800ccc0d, any ideas?

I come at this question from a different angle though. I have an account
with "Windows live Mail" and this works great, I can send and receive e-mails
with no problem. So my first question is, "Do I really need windows mail as
well"? Secondly, "Is it any use to keep it, as it shows up In my "start
menu" ? Thirdly, Can it be used In conjunction with "Windows live Mail" so
that Copies of the "live Mail" account can also go into the "Mail" account
So rendering the "Mail" account like an archive, so if I accidentally delete
an e-mail in my "live mail" account, there still will be a copy on the
"Windows Mail" account ?

Apart from this, I have had a hell of a time trying to get into these
discussion groups, I got in through an error message
instead of the usual way I use to, which was to go to "Windows help and
support" and then click on"microsoft communities". In this case, I think I
might of clicked on something that I shouldn't have. If I have filled in the
newsgroup information wrongly or I have accidentally Clicked on the newsgroup
in the "accounts" section of "Windows Mail" properties and Inadvertently
clicked on something, either way, I am asking, how do I Put this right, What
information should I put in, to put this right? Are the news groups uniquely
linked To the "Windows Mail" program and should I keep it for this reason?
Or should I simply delete it altogether as I do not need it at all ? I know
you will be reading this and thinking "What a dummy and another nutter", but
I am sure that one of the knowledgeable MVP's In these forums will know
exactly what i am on about? Having said that, any and all helpful replies
are welcome. Thanks in advance

then messages will be available to both.

"pop3" and "smtp" are not valid server names. Ask your mail provider how to
set it up.

If you have Windows Live Mail you don't need Windows Mail.

'smtp.myname.com' does not look like a valid server name. Are you sure? And
then, are you sure of the port?

'(e-mail address removed)' is definitely not a server name. Servers don't
have an '@' in their name.

Are you at home or traveling when this happens?

No, they do not sound right, do they? Pop3 & smtp? I do not know how they
got in there in the first place, or perhaps Vista comes like that? All I
want is to know what information to put instead of them so I can get rid of
these Dam! error messages.
What would happen if I deleted the pop3 & smtp altogether?

I guess I'll have to do a bit more digging and check with MY E-MAIL provider.

Oh and by the way, I am not on the move with the PC, I am stationery.

Perhaps someone could advise me on how to synchronise windows mail with
windows live mail so that copies of my live e-mail would be left on my
windows mail account?

The settings for Tiscali:login (e-mail address removed)
incoming email (POP3) pop.tiscali.co.uk
outgoing email (SMTP) smtp.tiscali.co.uk

To get mail to both programs go to:
Tools>accounts>select account>advanced tab>enable leave copy of message on
server, set a reasonable number of days to delete from server, or your ISP
mailbox will fill up.

Do the above on both programs.

Your Live mail account Will NOT work in WM, only in WLM.

Thanks for the advice Mac, I will try that. I am still a little confused
though,

Are you saying that I, :login (e-mail address removed)?

Tiscali is my ISP but I have not got an e-mail account with them, my e-mail
account is the Window's "live" account.

So shouldn't it be :login (e-mail address removed) ?

Am I missing the point somewhere? I am sorry for being so dumb. I
understand all the rest I think. Are you saying that in my window's mail
settings I should put in "pop.tiscali.co.uk" for my incoming mail and
"smtp.tiscali.co.uk" for my outgoing mail?

Your username for mail server login is not determined by which
email program you use. It is determined by the provider of your

Okay, I will need the answers in small language, I will tell you the fields I
am going in and I will tell you what I am putting in those fields. I have
tried all different scenarios: so the fields that I have gone in, this is
what is in them at this point in time. I should point out that the account
was taken out by my wife with Tiscali. So they are our ISP.

step 1. start menu, click windows mail.

step 2. Click tools, click accounts,
in the section where it says "Mail" Underneath
that it says "Windows mail (default) " and then under that It
has
my "(e-mail address removed)", Click on this to highlight it

I have also checked the box that says " include this account
when receiving mail or synchronising".

step 3. Click properties, And In "General" under "Mail Account" in the
first
pane it says "Windows Mail". Under "User Information" in the
"Name"
pane I have my communities name in here "andy t". In the
"Organisation"
pane I have "windows.mail.co.uk", in the "E-mail address" pane it
says my "(e-mail address removed)". Then in the "Password" pane my
"wife's password" (this is the name and password that originally
opened our
Tiscali ISP account). Then I checked the "Remember password"
box but
not the two remaining "Secure authentication" boxes.

step 4. Click servers, under "Server Information" and in the "My incoming
mail
server is a" pane, it says "POP3" server, and in the "Incoming
mail
(POP3):" pane it says "(e-mail address removed)". In the
"Outgoing mail
(SMTP):" pane it says "(e-mail address removed)". Then under
the
heading "Incoming mail server" and in the "E-mail username" pane it
says my"(e-mail address removed)",In the"Reply address"
pane I also have my "(e-mail address removed)

step 5. Click advance, under the heading-"Server port numbers" It says
"Outgoing
mail (SMTP):" Then in the box It says "25". The "Incoming
mail(POP3):"
box shows "110". Then after that nothing else is checked except
the
"Leave a copy of messages on server" box and "Remove from server
after
5 days"

I then get the error messages I told you about originally, plus I
also get
a message that starts with showing a "yellow triangle" with a
"Black !". It
then goes on to say - "Unable to connect to the server".

Configuration:

Account: NNTP
Server: microsoft.communities.com
User name: my "(e-mail address removed)
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800ccc0e

I believe that this is all the information you need. Perhaps now you can

Right Andy, first off I assume from the above, that you have 2 mail
accounts, your wife's Tiscali account, and one that you are trying to set up
for "(e-mail address removed)" ? Your wife's account works but your new one does
not.
Am I correct so far?

If so you are attempting to do the impossible because the Windows Mail
program does not support live.co.uk accounts.

You need a different mail program to access your live.co.uk account, Windows

No, Our ISP or Company that serves us with the Internet is Tiscali.

So what do I put? And what use is windows mail? What does it do? It shows in
my start menu, should I just bannish it to the "all programs folders" or
can I use
it constructively as a genuine e-mail account? Surely it's used for a

all these error messages coming up, cannot be right. I was just
wondering Mac,
if you could help me fill in the fields with the right to information?

Andy, for the final time -- WM will not handle any type of free webmail
account!!

Windows mail operates for POP and IMAP type accounts, like the one that your
wife has from Tiscali.

Again, did you sort out your newsgroup account?
