I have two questions:
1. What is the url to download the free version?

2. What does it do better than?

thanks

Some current zonealarm products have begun to popup what is essentially an
ad, promoting their (paid) antispyware module.

Is Sygate still available for free?

This area is getting more difficult to find the good players.

Hi Bill

Never heard of any ads from Zone Alarm and Sygate is also free.

Better then to have a crazy unknown trojan and XP SP2......... ;)

But about that we have discussed before.

I can also recommend some of these but I will not recommend to wait for
One Care.

TrendMicro PC-cillin is a really nice trial ;-)

Gentlemen,
If one uses Zone Labs or Sygate should one disable the XP SP2 firewall or
use both one alongside the other?

Better to use just one. In some cases, with two, the actual source of the
outgoing packet that you are being asked to approve passage of--is
concealed--it'll appear as the firewall service, rather than the underlying
app.

Looks like they've taken heed of considerable feedback, and stopped this
practice, according to posts in their support forums.

With ZA free, the optimal setting is as follows: In ZA, Firewall, main tab,
click advanced, check disable Windows firewall on start up, OK out. Also, in
Overview, preferences, check Load ZA at startup. Now, shut down ZA by right
clicking on the sytem tray icon. In security center, set Windows firewall on.
Restart ZA from start, all programs. It therefore shuts down the Windows
firewall (you can see the change in security center). However if you shut
down ZA, the Windows firewall comes back on. That way, if ZA shuts down for
any reason, Windows firewall is switched on and you always have one firewall
on.

Note: that is the priciple, and it works mostly, although after some
restarts, if ZA is switched off Windows firewall may not come on (don't know
why not); so worth checking now and then.
