I have just installed XP with ZoneAlarm and I find that all of my Internet
access is blocked. I have reverted to the XP firwall and everything works OK
now. Any ideas?

Zone Alarm should come up with a program name that is trying to access the
Internet, so that you can authorize it or not

Y.

Two come to mind...don't have Zone Alarm and the XP
firewall up at the same time and you might have set Zone
Alarm to block your systems Subnet Mask. Check the
Internet Settings in Zone Alarm and delete any reference
to your system.

Yes I have given permission for both IE and OE to have access to the
Internet but ZA still blocks everything.

You have to manually tell Zone Alarm what you want to
allow to have access.
You can do this by learning mode (clicking 'Yes' when it
says "Is Internet Explorer allowed to use internet?"), or
by managing it yourself and by manually finding stuff that
should be allowed to use internet.

.
When you first start zone alarm, it asks about
everything. tell it yes to the programs you want (click
on dont ask me again) and those programs will access no
problem. Also, under the programs tab, you can go in and
select allow or deny access to each program. It is self
explanitory once you are in it. I use the program and
love it.

you must have choosed to block things because zonealarm
gives you choices to allow or not when it recognizes a
program is wishes to connect to the internet... as far as
xp's firewall.its garbage and doesn't work..you would
find that out through zone alarm or other spam programs
if you had them loaded onto your computer...do a little
researc/reading on zonelarm before you install it again,
if you should install it again...but get yourself a
firewalll because you would be surprised how many people
are trying to access your computer...good luck

Hi Daz - Have you perhaps accidently "locked out" the Internet (by hitting
CNTL-L by accident)? You might look at the 'padlock' at the top in ZA and
see if it's in the 'locked' position. If so, you can use CNTL-L to toggle
this function.

I have checked and done all of the things that you have all so kindly
mentioned so far. What I will try is to unintall/reinstall ZA to see if that
that fixes it.

Many thanks for your help, guys.

When you install Zone Alarm, you have to ensure its settings are such
that it asks you when a program first tries to get at the internet.
THen for things like IExplore.exe (Internet Explorer), msimn.exe
(outlook Express) msmsgs.exe (Messenger) you check the 'always do this'
and click Yes

Didn't happen to block Generic Host Processes For Win 32 Services by
any chance?

On most systems you need to let this have access in ZA or you won't
have internet access. (You do not have to let it have server rights
though)
