I just found a new IP Address in my trusted zone and it's called a Loopback
Adapter with an IP address of 127.0.0.1. I have no idea what this is and
what it does - nor where it came from. Can someone help? In the meantime,
I blocked it.

Thanks...I looked up the article - but, unfortunately, didn't understand it
at all. How did it get there? What does it do? I'd sure appreciate it if
you could explain this to me in plain English. I just tried to load
Limewire - and it told me I had to change the settings on my firewall
loopback. So, I blocked the loopback adapter - and Limewire loaded. Is it
OK to block the adapter - or delete it? Thanks.....

Suggest leaving it blocked for a while, and see if you have any problems.
If no problems pop up then go ahead and disable it. I am running Win XP Home
SP2 and can not find anything on this machine about Loopback Adapter.

From what I understand it applies only if you are on a network system, and
are having problems. But I could be wrong.

Perhaps this article will explain it to you --

I have XP home also and that loopback showed up after a boot a while ago. I
tried blocking it and it didn't affect anything and finally deleted it.

ZoneAlarm puts it there by default when you install the software. I have
6 computers that use ZA and everyone of them has that item listed. I'd
leave it there and keep it unblocked. There must be reason for it,
although I can't tell you what it is.

If you want more information I'd contact ZoneAlarm.

127.0.0.1 is the home address. It's the IP for the computer itself.

Correct. But why ZoneAlarm needs it there, is the mystery.

Sam

It doesn't need it. I deleted it on my computer and it has not affected ZA
Pro.

Frank

But something placed it there in the first place. There must be SOME
reason.
