Zone Alarm

Do I need to run this on my stand alone PC running XP
home?
Someone told me it is already firewalled, and someone
else said why not have the extra protection. I just
don't want something sucking up space if it is not needed.

Hi Gina,

It is highly recommended that you use a firewall on your computer. A
firewall protects your computer when it is connected to the internet.
Windows XP has a built-in firewall, read the instruction in the Knowledge
Base article (see below). You can also install other firewalls such as Zone
Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com). Zone Alarm is a free firewall that you can
download. You also can buy firewall software in your local computer store.

For the standard home user, non-experimental without kids who would be
downloading with things like iMesh, Kazza, Grokster, etc... The Built in
Windows XP firewall (which only blocks INCOMING traffic) should be turned on
(you need to make sure it is on) and that should be fine. (

If you feel at all unsure after reading the above that you are safe, then go
the extra step, get yourself a firewall software or Internet Router (
http://www.firewallguide.com/freeware.htm or
http://www.pricewatch.com/1/7/3573-1.htm ) Space is CHEAP (
http://www.pricewatch.com/menus/m26.htm ), losing what you have put on it is
EXPENSIVE or irreplacable.
