I'm having a problem with using dialup in XP. I'm dialing to an ATT dialup
account and the connection works fine. I'm able to browse the web, run my
VPN client, etc. The problem is that *sometimes* after I disconnect the PPP
"adapter" stays around; i.e., if I run ipconfig /all from a command prompt I
see the adapter listed with all the IP numbers zeroed out. The problem is
that if I then use the dialup again I get a *second* PPP adapter and,
although I get a connection, I'm unable to do anything. It's as if the
system is trying to route through the zombie PPP adapter.
I can reboot the machine to clear the zombie, but that's a major pain.
Is there a way to kill an adapter like this from a command prompt (or any
other way?) Is there a way to avoid the problem in the first place?
Any suggesitons or pointers would be appreciated.
TIA,
