Hope you guys can help a beginner.
I have discovered the following spyware (MediaCodec Zlob Trojan) and cannot get rid of it.
I had Macafee, pre loaded from dell, but this has only 7 days left to run, I have unistalled it and installed AVG, free, I also have SpyBot, Ad-Aware 2007, Spyware-doctor and XoftSpy SE.
It is picked up by XoftSpy and Spyware doctor and I then delete it but at each bootup it re-appears.
I have run them in safe mode and again they find it and I delete it but back it comes.
I have also Disabled system restore and emptied recycle bin then run them and the same happens.
Can anyone help me please.
Chris

Please download SmitfraudFixhttp://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Don't use it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode: (without networking support !)
To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

(Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background and set it blank again. But you can reapply your desktop background again afterwards

You will be prompted :
"Registry cleaning ... Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press Enter.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; save that log in case you need it to reply together with a hijackthislog. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Please download & run HijackThis ... post a log from HJT & SmitfraudFix in your next post.

Hmmm, wish they were all this easy ... :thumb:

Just some tiding up to do ... get HJT to "FIX" the following ;

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
(deactivated) entry that can be fixed.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyHunter] C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group\SpyHunter\SpyHunter.exe
unnecessary. Enigma SpyHunter ... not recommended by me (it didn't work ;-) ... suggest you uninstall DO NOT FIX with HJT ... uninstall it!

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Free Uploader Oe Integration] C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\FUM\fumoei.exe
Rubbish things these ... Uninstall, waste of space, upto you though.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Skype] "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /nosplash /minimized
Not dangerous, but unnecessary. You can "load" it up when needed.
upto you

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Free Download Manager] "C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\fdm.exe" -autorun
As above

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Free Upload Manager] "C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\fum\fum.exe" -autorun
Third bit loading ... sheesh!!

O4 - Global Startup: Bluetooth.lnk = ?
Unnecessary and can be fixed.

O4 - Global Startup: SetPoint.lnk = ?
Unnecessary and can be fixed. I hate Logitech

Thank you Muckshifter, I have followered your advise abd all OK apart from a few questions:
As I live in the country in Spain I do not have a landline phone or a cable internet connection, I use a local WiFi system and as it can be a bit flacky I use Download manager and also Skyoe for the phone.
Also I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
If view of the above I wonder if I will need to keep the entries for Skype, Free Download Manager and for the bluetooth Bluetooth.Ink and SetPoint.Ink.
I have sent you the latest HJT log for your comments
Best regards
Chris

Ah, I see ... then let them load up, no harm, they just take up memory even when you don't use them.

It seems every "program" that is installed wants to load up as you start Windows ... a lot of them are not needed ... some of them 04 - HKLM/HKCU can be told not to until you need them.

Not a problem ... it just gets up my nose. ;)
