Hi,
What do you mean by parallel? I have a Zip 100 drive connected to one of my
IDE
controllers and it works fine.

Jason, I don't think that Iomega wrote drivers for Vista for the Parallel
version of their Zip drives. You may be able to get by with the XP/2000
driver available here (watch for really long URL wrap and I have included a
SnipURL to the same place.

SnipURL address is http://snipurl.com/7q52o [iomega-na-en_custhelp_com]

They also still sell USB zip drives that will use the ZIP 100 disks. It may
be another option for you.

Hope this helps, let us know.

You never heard of the Parallel port? Zip Drives used to come for the
Parallel port, or Serial, ATAPI (like yours), SCSI, unpowered USB, powered
USB, and probably even something else that I cannot remember right now..

I would look for a second hand USB or ATAPI ip Drive if you are having
problems. They will be very cheap. In fact, I have seen many in skips at
my old university a few years ago, when they were dumping a load of PIIIs.

I still have an ATAPI Zip Drive 100, but I am keeping hold of it for the
time being.

You'd have to contact Iomega to see if they provide Vista-specific
device drivers for their legacy products.

He means an external unit that plugs into the parallel printer port.

The real question is: "Wow - people still use Zip drives?" Didn't
these things have like a 75% failure rate after a year or so?

I didn't think they were used much anymore either, if at all.....

Not since the cost of CD burners fell to $25 and blank CD's to 10¢
anyway...

Yeah, great idea... waste time trying to contact a company that was
notorious for extremely bad customer service.

Zip Disks were still widely used in the graphics industry until around 2000,
and in other fields that used large files. Professional printing bureaus
still accept them I think.

I used to use Zip Disks as an architecture student until around 2001, when I
got a USB flash drive to give to printing bureaus. There were occasions
that optical media could not be read by them, causing me *extreme* stress on
a presentation day.

A quick trip to their web site shows that they do not offer Vista
drivers for the parallel port Zip 100s. XP drivers, sure, Vista, no.

They do, however, offer Vista drivers for the ATAPI/IDE version so if
the OP can scare one of them up, there are drivers available.

Enable legacy Plug and Play detection in Device Manager, ECP Printer
Port Properties.

Even memory sticks are a cheaper and more reliable option than ZIP disks.
