The files appear to be left-over email attachments of zero bytes in My
Documents and Temporary Internet Files. Rootkit Revealer says 26
bytes. The error message is "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from
source file or disk". Safe mode doesn't work. CCleaner doesn't work.
BartPE XP from CD boot doesn't work. Disc Cleanup nor Chkdsk/f
neither. The goofy MS DiskProbe disk editor doesn't find the entries
on disk but 010Editor disk editor does. What do I change in the
directory entry to make it deleted?

Would this have anything to do with the fact that C: is 98, E:
(logical) is XP Pro, I: is Linux, all on the same disc. And I use
Outlook Express with the message and address book for XP both using
the Win 98 message storage area so's not to duplicate everything?
Other thousands of attachments/messages have not gone wacko.

This worked for me once - no guarantees and use at your own risk

delinvfile worked! thanks. why can't I do it thru the command prompt?
was it only an entry in the Master File Table? I used to be able to
edit file directory entries. where is the MFT?
