I have a zero-byte file on my Windows XP desktop that I can't move, rename,
or delete. When I try, I get an error message stating "Cannot read from the
source file or disk." When I open a command line DOS prompt and look for
the file in the my corresponding Desktop folder under the Documents and
Settings tree, the file is not listed in the directory. Can anyone please
tell me how to delete this ghost "file" from my desktop?

First, Run a CHKDSK on that partition :
CHKDSK DRIVE_LETTER: /R

If that doesn't work then try Unlocker : http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Good Luck, Ayush.

Do you use LimeWire, BearShare, or other file sharing program? If so, is that
where you got this file?

Please explain what CHKDSK C: /R will do. I'm facing the same
problem, and would like to know what I'm doing to my computer when I
run these commands.

Thank you.
