Does XP overwrite previously installed programs from
earlier editions of windows?

Only if you did a Clean Install of XP. If you did an Upgrade Install all
your data is still there.
 
Hi,

No, not normally, though some older programs may require an update or an
upgrade in order to function correctly. Seom may run just fine in
compatibility mode.

Hi!
if you only upgrade all the previous files will be there but if you opt
clean install XP will overwrite.
