you have files to write to CD

Hi. When I boot my Dell Latitude running XP Pro with a CD-RW drive, I get a
balloon that says "you have files to write to CD. Click on this balloon to
see them". Of course there are NO files to see. (This started with back-up
files from Quicken; usually I backup to my Iomega Rev drive but I missed and
hit the CD; I did back up the files to the Rev drive but now can't get rid of
these files waiting to write. Seems to have nothing to do with Quicken
anymore). Booting with a CD in the drive makes no difference. Now when I
click on the drive in My Computer>Properties I do not see the files waiting
to be written. And I do not see a "Record" tab. I read the nice Microsoft
thing
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/bott_03september16.mspx
about what to do in this case, but it's not that I can't write to the CD: I
can successfully write a file to CD. So the MS stuff about not seeing the
Record tab meaning that the drive is not recognized as writeable does not
really compute. This may be some Registry issue but I followed those
directions to edit the registry: it seemed OK (the RW drive was designated
"2"). some other registry problem? Where are these files? Can I delete them?
Some Windows folder I have not located. I'm having some serious delays in the
OS, booting, shutting down, that correlates I think with this problem. I
appreciate any suggestions.

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
You need to check show hidden files & folders in folder options, view tab ..

Except it didn't work! I deleted all the files and folders in the CD Burning
folder. When I rebooted I still had the balloon that there were files waiting
to be written to CD! looked everywhere else for another CD burning folder
without success. Any ideas? thanks!----DG

Wow, sorry for not seeing this post sooner..
If you haven't already solved the problem, you can get the XP powertoy named
TweakUI and go to taskbar (highlight it) and disable/uncheck balloon tips or
just disable the inbuilt cd Wiz on the recording tab in properties for your
burner in the My Computer window.. Or you could set the IMAPI CD-Burning COM
Service to manual or disable it altogether if your using a third party
burning app..

Cheers.
