Just under the Download Updates button is a drop down menu where you
can select the mirror site to download from - try a different one.

I'm finding all this hard to believe. The download site selection doesn't
appear when you click update.

** No. What download site? The available downloads show in the small
Spybot window itself - under the buttons. Then you click INSTALL and it
installs them - if you're lucky.

The site selection is in the menu to the left
of the update button - next to the notepad-looking thing that says log.

** The update button is on the left - then a small white window opens to the
right of it. Then you click SEARCH FOR UPDATES. They soon show in this
window. You then click on DOWNLOAD UPDATES. They download etc.
If you can see that, select FXclips (USA) as your site. All this is at
the top of the window for updates.

** There is a button that says No Mirror Selected. There is NOWHERE to
select a mirror!!!!

That window is EMPTY until I click the "Look for Update" button. Then the
updates appear in that window - NOT MIRROR sites. Then we click download
updates and it downloads them - if all goes right.

There are NO MIRROR sites to select in or on the "Look For Update/Download
Update" Spybot window.

Argh! :) First, you select "search for updates" then once it does it's thing,
you'll likely see UniDo (Europe) with a little arrow next to it. That is where
you select the mirror site, BUT you first have to select "search for updates"
even if no updates are found, you will still be able to select the mirror site
at that time called "FXclips (USA).

You're getting warm: It's not about what shows in the main window, it's about what's
at the top. Mirror sites are at the top, next to the note book looking thing, but
you can only select from the list after you click on the "search for updates" tab.

John I know how you feel. I finally got it working (have home xp) today.
I. Make sure the Spybot pgm is deleted via add/delete panel. Then make sure
Spybot directory is deleted.
2. On internet type in www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
3. This gives you page where half way down you will see Download - Spybot S
& D 1.2 >click here<
Click on and program gets d/l/d. On desktop dbl clk on pgm name and you
should get pgm on desktop.

Go back to internet (actually I had just minimized internet) and d/l
Detection updates 2003-12-31. This line s/b right under the pgm d/l. Click
on it and pgm gets updated.

Next click on d/l for Tools update.

I believe you should be in business to now run SpyBot.

I intend to do all my updating in this matter rather than through the Spybot
panel on desktop.
Good Luck
Dannie

** Sorry, nothing like that appeared. I just tried it *NOW* and it simply
said "No Updates Available". It was just updated the other day. It took a
long time but did get the updates - from "where" is anyone's guess.

** Not in my version of SpyBot. I just checked it AGAIN. You must have an
older version.

## I've uninstalled and reinstalled Spybot several times now. The Update
does not work and there is useless information on their website. The below
is C&P from the Sypbot website. When I try to update it "stops responding"
locks up and we have to close the program.

Spybot DOES work with XP. Been using it for years.
The main reason for this problem is that you need to use a proxy server to
access the internet.

No you dont. If your ISP is forcing a proxy on you and it is interfering
with Spybot, then you can:

A) Go to Spybot's web site and download the updates in the way you download
anything through your browser, assuming this isn't also blocked by your ISP.

B) Tell your ISP to stop it. There are ISPs in Australia who unintentionally
block Mcafee Virus Scanner from automatically contacting Mcafee for updates.
They are losing customers doing that. I suggest you may find yourself
another ISP to test this through and if you like that other ISP, stay there
and cancel your current ISP account.
