LOL...ubuntu...it ain't real.
I imagined tinkering with it...then the valium wore off.

I remember too well when you TRIED to tinker with Ubuntu. Your tinkering
ended almost as soon as it started because you were too dumb and too lazy
to figure out how to use it. Maybe you should have taken more valium?
And I said...What the **** am I doing?

Most of us said the same thing about you when you posted your stupidity in
using Ubuntu.
And what's with all this vomit on the floor ?

No idea? Couldn't find a MickeyMouse barf bag?
And who put these clothes pins in my hair?

Probably the same person that changes your diapers.

Cheers.

I must say the developers at Microsoft do have a sense of humour.

What purpose would SLI serve in Ubuntu ?
Its a POS OS...even gnuchess ...3D LMAO , that aint 3D...is a joke in Linux
forums.
Its a POS... I can run ubuntu better and had far less trouble with
installing than your average dweeb.
Its still a worthless POS...Point of negligible return ?
Its a lot of effort for an OS that looks like DOS .... unless flaming
windows are your cup o tea.
It's a joke...as are you NoStop

Of course I offer a hand, the kind that actually works.

You're hand is up your arse or RS's hairy arse!
Which is it...wait...we don't really want to know.

I encourage all
computer users to dump Vista and move on to a REAL operating system - Ubuntu.

Trying to fool people ain't working is it cause urbuttoo is losing
market share by the day to Vista.
That will fix everyones problems and provide security, stability,
free software and freedom to use ones computer without Microsoft
interferring.

How delusional you are...not even LT's relatives believe that line of
bullsh*t. I guess you're really stupid huh?

Too bad you're too dumb to use a REAL operating system. Guess
you're just too busy chasing communists around your bedroom.

Are you on top, in between or on the bottom (ouch!)?

To be perfectly fair advisory, row, and range locking are
available in Windows but for some reason programmers always lock the
whole file.

What he wants is impossible. Yes, it is impossible. he wants the app name to
be presented to him on a silver plate. The OS may be running hundreds of
apps, perhaps thousands. It is impossible to give them all humanized names
that every idiot sitting in front of his computer will immediately
understand.

Hmmm. In unix lsof lists what processes have which files open.
For windows you'll need to download handle from

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Handle.mspx

It's from Microsoft which is a site even alexb trusts so you know
it's cool. Used to be part of the sysinternals stuff. You can use
handle to list processes that have files open then kill the ones you need to.
The developers even in MS OSs are under many constraints.

One of which seems to be "don't make it easy for users to
find anything"

IF A "FILE IS IN USE" THEN YOU TELL ME WHAT PROGRAM IS USING IT, AND
ALSO A BUTTON TO END THAT PROGRAM YOU STUPID MORONS

To follow up on Mr. Arnold's suggestion to visit the SysInternal's part
of the MS website.......

From there you can d/l ProcessExplorer. PE is a replacement for Task
Manager, a TM on steroids if you will. It is what Task Manager *should*
have been, BUT, OF COURSE, it was developed by a 3rd party, SysInternals,
and subsequently purchased by MS because........

With PE, you can easily find out what process is using the file. There is
a menu named 'Find'. Go there and select 'Find DLL or Handle', enter the
name of the file that is in use, and it will tell you what process is
using it.

PE will also tell you what each and every svchosts.exe is hosting, and a
LOT more.

It's because they wanted to cash in and make some money for their hard work.
Wouldn't you?
Any professional wants to get paid $,$$$ for their work, as they have to put
food on the table and pay bills. They found an area, they developed it and
they cashed in on it, and it's a simple as that.
I believe Sysinternals was paid handsomely and personnel given positions
with MS. They had the golden goose that laid some golden eggs that's going
to take care of them for the rest of their lives.

And there is a lot more than Process Explorer at the site that can be used
to make determinations, a lot more. :)

I would. That wasn't meant to

Whenever I've mentioned PE, I always note that SysInternals had really
been the developers of it even though it is d/l'd from MS now, and that
it is far superior to plain old Task Manager, and that MS actually just
bought SysInternals. I am actually giving credit to them for a great
piece of s/w and making sure that someone does not get the credit for
something that they did not develop.

Yes there is. PE might be the most useful to the most amount of users.
