That's just part of the Windoze Experience. Live with it or move on to a
REAL operating system and stop whining.

Cheers.

You stupid moron, the BUTTON exists. It exists for every person except you,
idiot, and NoStop or course, but he is an idiot by default.

Ctrl+Alt+Del - Task manager. Examine which programs (applications are
running). Look down, you idiot, you will see a button: "End Process."

Press it, you STUPID MORON.

NoStop is not only an idiot, he is a skunk, a scoundrel who would enjoy
people having problems. He will never offer a helping hand.

The application that has a hold on the file does not reveal itself. One has
no ideas which program or process to stop. Any other suggestions for the
OP.

In the task Manager there is another tab: Processes. You can try to end some
of those. The system won't allow you to kill processes that are essential
for the OS to run.

If you kill unawares "an important" process five min later it will be back
when you turned the task Manager back again.

You should also be somewhat orientated as to what may be potentially
running.

It actually may be ******spyware******.

Run Spybot S&D. raed the following. There is some redundancy down there.
Skip it.

My policy is not to use any 3-rd party anti-malware except Spybot S&D.
Windows Vista offers sufficient protection against malicious software
writers some of them I am sure watch this forum very carefully.

Download Microsoft Windows Baseline Security Analyzer. It is Beta 2.1 for
Vista and I think it is safe to download. Run it.

<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...AF-9DBE-4DCE-889E-ECF997EB18E9&displaylang=en>

It will give you all your vulnerabilities, especially in your firewall
settings. You should read the report and if it suggests any changes, you
should consider them.
Your Windows firewall setting will be analyzed.

Download Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830). It
will want to run upon install. Choose the FULL scan although it may give you
a threatening message that it might take a few hours. It will scan your
entire computer in about half an hour or less if you do not have a lot of
stuff in it.

<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e0-e72d-4f54-9ab3-75b8eb148356&displaylang=en>

Some reassuring information: Malicious Software Removal Tool
<http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx>
The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool helps remove specific,
prevalent malicious software from computers that are running Windows Vista,
Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=890830

You can also go to Protection Center (Microsoft)
<http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/center/howsafe.htm?s_cid=mscom_msrt>
and click "Protection Scan." There will be a dropdown menu and a button:
"Launch Full Scan or Vista." You can do it if you wish.

Download and install Spybot Search & Destroy, a great piece of software
which is free for individuals but corporations pay fees. You may be asked
for donations but it is up to you. It is very up to date and every week you
will have to download new updates, sometimes even more often. You should
check for updates every time you run it. It will give you all su*kers
leached into your registry and ask you if you wanted to remove them. Many of
them have masqueraded themselves under MS Windows names like
Windows.something. Do not hesitate to kill them all. You can trust SB S&D.

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

It also allows you to IMMUNIZE your system. It means that when you go to a
website and they try to download some kind of a Trojan to you SB S&D will
either kill it silently, or ask you if you want to do it or will kill it and
give you a notice. It is better to let it kill them all in silence.

Listen to Mark Russinovich's (MS) webcast: Advanced Malware Cleaning

<http://www.microsoft.com/emea/spotlight/sessionh.aspx?videoid=359>

Downloading any 3-rd party "free" anti-spyware program is an invitation for
disaster.

The AV (antivirus industry) is on the way to the cemetery:
The slow death of AV technology:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/06/08/death_of_av/
Vista did it in.

Sorry Bob, I misunderstood. I thought I was answering the OP's post in my
previous post.

But the information is there.

Rich T

Well he's kind of right but he could have asked a bit more politely. Some
(indeed most) Windows error messages are really stupid - they could use
real language and tell you what program is using the file (presumably the
computer knows?). There are similarly stupid arrogant and unhelpful messages
all over windows (eg USB device unknown - unknown device driver loading -
not to mention all the crappy geek speak that you have to have been born in
California and weigh 300lbs to understand.

Bob, I am still angry with this idiot OP. He does not understand what he is
talking about. Instead of posting provocative and stupid "suggestion to MS"
he should try to find out if it is POSSIBLE?

What he wants is impossible. Yes, it is impossible. he wants the app name to
be presented to him on a silver plate. The OS may be running hundreds of
apps, perhaps thousands. It is impossible to give them all humanized names
that every idiot sitting in front of his computer will immediately
understand.

The developers even in MS OSs are under many constraints. The names they
give to their app are brief by necessity.

What if this window he gets so angry about will say: sdh32.exe still
running. What is he going to do about it?

As I say, there are thousands of such things running inside the OS. Not to
mention third party software with weird names at times made deliberately
obscure and weird.

The only thing if he what to find out is to go to Processes and try to kill
them one by one. he should avoid killing obviously good apps like IExplorer,
etc. Some system execs are easily identifiable too.

A

AlexB

No Rich, it is impossible. I am a developer and I understood it long time
ago. It is very irritating but totally impossible to fix.

They have to hire an army of psychologists to do it. It also may be very
difficult to do technically. All this info is in the kernel. Going thru
kernel is very resource consuming. It is a very expensive proposition. You
have to drag string values (text) thru layers and layers of objects. What
for?

People have to adjust. Most do. Some idiots have problems.

When I see a window like this it takes me about 3 min to figure out who the
culprit is. It takes time to develop skills but if you want to you do it.

Of course I offer a hand, the kind that actually works. I encourage all
computer users to dump Vista and move on to a REAL operating system -
Ubuntu. That will fix everyones problems and provide security, stability,
free software and freedom to use ones computer without Microsoft
interferring. Too bad you're too dumb to use a REAL operating system. Guess
you're just too busy chasing communists around your bedroom.

Cheers.

Hmmm, so simple to do in Linux. Why would it be so damn difficult to do this
in Windoze? Oh I know! Microsoft loves keeping shit like this a mystery so
that users will continue to feel the dominance of Big Brother.

Yes ...so simple in Linux.
The OS that no REAL apps runs in...

Way to simplify Linux !

Anymore garage coded apps in the pipeline?
